FUTURE4PRIMA launches public consultation to co-design the future PRIMA Partnership
The Horizon Europe project FUTURE4PRIMA, the EU-funded initiative shaping the future of the PRIMA Programme, today launches an online public consultation on the design of PRIMA 2, the renewed EU Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area.
After two years of collaborative work with a consortium of 23 partners from 16 countries, FUTURE4PRIMA has defined the preliminary orientations for PRIMA 2, which would allow the partnership to continue launching calls for research and innovation projects beyond 2027. Now, the process moves to its most important phase: listening to stakeholders.
Since its creation in 2018, PRIMA has mobilised nearly €600 million, supported more than 260 cross-border projects, and engaged thousands of researchers, farmers, SMEs, and civil society actors. It has produced over 170 exploitable results, set up 127 demonstration sites, and become a recognised platform for science diplomacy and cooperation across the Mediterranean
Why your voice matters
The Mediterranean faces accelerating climate stress, water shortages, soil degradation, biodiversity loss, food insecurity, and widening socio-economic divides. Many innovative solutions already exist but often remain stuck at pilot stage, without being scaled up or replicated across countries.
PRIMA 2 aims to change this — by ensuring that validated solutions are adopted, replicated, and sustained over time, while strengthening cooperation and inclusiveness across the region
The consultation invites stakeholders to reflect on key questions, such as:
- How urgent is action on water, energy, food, soil, and ecosystems in your region?
- What prevents innovation from scaling across Mediterranean countries?
- Which stakeholder groups should have the strongest voice in PRIMA 2?
- How do we ensure solutions go beyond pilots and last?
- What indicators should be used to track real progress and impact?

What’s next
Responses will directly inform the Joint Programme proposal for PRIMA 2 ahead of decisions on the future of PRIMA under the next EU Framework Programme (FP10, 2028–2034).
With your input, PRIMA 2 can turn research into resilience and deliver lasting solutions for the Mediterranean.
